I’ve always thought if guilt as external and shame as internal. We feel guilty about how we have wrongfully engaged or interacted with others. We feel shame about how we have wrongfully engaged or interacted with ourselves. They both serve their purpose. To an extent. And it is so easy to let them take over too much.
Complaining though, that’s something that is both internal and external. And it is vicious and insidious in its effects on our whole experience of life.
To turn every complaint into an opportunity to change. That’s true self awareness that will put all guilt and shame in their places.

I like this distinction! Internal vs. external. That also makes sense to me!
